iPod insurance should not cost you an arm and a leg people. But lets be honest – they are worth a small fortune so losing one without insurance is not something I would wish on anyone. The reason I am so passionate about this is because my brand new iPod was stolen just after Christmas and I wasn’t insured. Don’t let this happen to you!
Imagine how you look when you strut around town with your cool, expensive earphones on. That attracts a lot of attention. And now put yourself in the shoes of the thieves. Easy targets ladies and gentleman! Not many people know it, but you can protect your iPod for a tiny amount per month. The best I could find out there on the market was roughly 8p per day.
Let me share with you my top 3 tips on how to protect your iPod and save lots of money.
iPod Insurance – Top 3 Tips
1. Make sure your iPod is protected for the following:
* Water damage – MOST important. Water damage is the main reason for claims and most companies do not offer this.
* Theft
* International cover – for when you are travelling abroad
* Extended warranty
* Accidental damage
* No claims bonus – A very important point for me to make. You should receive bonuses such as free itunes songs and the like if you don’t make a claim within the 12 month period
2. Search for independent companies online
A simple search for ‘iPod insurance’ within Google returns almost 23 million results. There are so any different ways to get you iPod insured. As well as lots of fantastic information which can save you money. Ensure the company you go with is FSA Regulated – in a nutshell that means they are not dodgy and if you have any problems with a claim you can contact the FSA and lodge a complaint. You will end up receiving your money. One other important snippet of information you need to know is to make sure that water damage is included within your cover. There are very cheap companies out there, but they wont offer water damage as part of their insurance policy. Its the most common claim reason, and if you don’t have it, your cover is almost worthless.
3. Try your buildings Contents Insurance
A sneaky little loophole ladies and gentleman! If you are a homeowner you will almost certainly have a section within the cover called ‘personal belongings’. It usually covers for items such as engagement rings and gold watches inside and outside of your home. Give your insurance company a call and ask if your iPod can be added. Please be aware though that you will be required to fill in a lot of paperwork, and at least £50 will disappear as you will have to pay an excess. Its also worth adding ‘no claims’ bonus protection. You don’t want to be ruining all those years of no claims just by claiming for an iPod. I believe its better in the long run to go independent.
The best independent company I could find online was http://www.insureit.2u.co.uk. For only 8p per day, I am pretty happy with the level of cover, which includes water damage.
